Student Support Services
Response to Intervention (RTI)
We recognize our obligation to provide targeted interventions to all of our students. To that end, a full-time RTI Coordinator supports teachers to modify instruction for students who struggle in literacy and math. In addition, we have added web-based literacy and math programs into our curriculum through iReady. It is through their efforts, along with those of the classroom teachers, that our students continue to show evidence of academic progress.
PS 349 is a barrier-free school; this allows students with special needs to receive instruction in their least restrictive environment. The School Implementation Team (SIT) meets to ensure that support services are aligned with the students' IEPs and that student referrals are addressed in a timely manner. Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, and Counseling Services are available to all identified students. A special education/IEP teacher coordinates schedules, advocates for students with special needs, and ensures compliance with all mandated services.
